Eight students in Dan Bennett’s Spanish 5 class at Bonny Eagle High School are preparing to compete against students from approximately 50 high schools from around the world in a European geography contest.

High school students from Canada, Spain, Nepal, Romania, Norway, Japan and many other countries, will be competing online to see who can correctly identify all of the European countries on a blank map, along with their respective capitals, and do it in the fastest time. The student and school who does so will be recognized with a certificate and a small monetary prize.

To add to the challenge, Bennett’s students will be competing in Spanish. In preparation, the students are learning the names of all European countries and capitals in Spanish, as well as each country’s nationality.

Spanish Teacher Dan Bennett says that although the students have a lot of studying to do before the April 27 deadline, he is confident they can and will rise to the challenge.

“I have no doubt that my students will not only learn European geography thoroughly and do so in the Spanish language, but will go on to distinguish themselves in this global competition.”

The students participating are: Sarah Carter, Allie Conn, Amber Cronin, Andrew LeProhon, Nicole Libbey, Kevin Stack, Jen Weeman and Kaitlin Williams.

The competition is an annual event and originates in Madrid, Spain. More information is available at www.tmundo.com.
