Editor,

In Pastor Grant Swank’s theological advice column that ran last week he referred to his daughter’s huge letdown in not securing a job she was promised. He writes how she asked him why God did that to her; that God is just plain mean and is not fair; the she doesn’t want God to lay all these hard things on her that her parents went through; and that she’s scared.

Well, I don’t wonder why she’s scared. I would be too if someone had taught me all the above reasons that basically God was responsible for her not getting the job and that her parents’ hard times were possibly God’s doing.

Then the question is asked why God forsook Jesus. But, young lady, God did not forsake Jesus, nor was he responsible for you not getting the job you counted on.

God gave humanity the freedom to choose without any restrictions. Whatever happens to man, it is man doing it to man, not God. What God said to Jesus and humanity is basically if you believe in me, if you keep faith in me, I will always be there to help you overcome adversities.

I was quite surprised to read Pastor Swank’s essay implying you have been taught that it was God’s fault. But if I misread the meaning in his essay, then I apologize.

Sincerely,

Peter Hassapelis
