The Portland Water District will begin its annual flushing of its water mains on April 15.

In an effort to reduce customer inconveniences, crews will work from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday. They will start in Deering and Falmouth and then move to other parts of the system. For more detail on the location of crews, please visit the district’s Web site at www.pwd.org.

Customers may notice short periods of water discoloration; however, water district officials said this program is essential to maintain water quality and public health.
