Think spring at weekend's home and garden show

2 min read

For those awaiting the arrival of spring blooms, a visit to the Maine Home and Garden Show this weekend in Gorham is sure to give a taste of what is to come.

The show takes place at the Costello Sports Complex Fieldhouse on University of Southern Maine Gorham campus, Friday to Sunday. Doors are open from noon-7 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday.

The heart of the show is the eating area anchored by the Shelter Institute Post and Beam display, leading out to four original and creative garden displays by Broadway Gardens of South Portland, The Skunk Works of Readfield, O’Donal’s Nursery and Ossipee Trail Garden Center of Gorham.

The Shelter Institute, a Maine business that has been educating people about home building for 30 years, will erect a 24-by-24-foot post-and-beam structure rising to the height of 26 feet.

Maine’s Backyard, a creation of the Downeast Show Promotion staff, will have a 60-by-30-foot display created by Jim Wynn of Sebago Dock and Pinetree Sheds & Spas. The rest of the show is a collection of Maine businesses representing towns from Kittery to Levant.

The University of Southern Maine’s Alumni Association will be hosting a reunion area for alumni and visitors who are looking at the university system as a future educational source for their families. The Easter bunny will also be visiting the show on Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $2 for youth 7 to 17, and free for children under 7. For more information, visit www.mainehomeandgardenshow.com.
