• William McAuliffe, a resident of Highland road, can see the college entrance from the end of his street. He spoke of the benefits of living near the campus, which has given him free beach access since he moved to Standish 33 years ago. “In my opinion, the jewel of Whites Bridge Road has been Saint Joseph’s College,” said McAuliffe.
• Jay Studoff, a Standish resident and a former director of security at the college, criticized the school for claiming it receives few complaints from residents. He said that during his time working at the college, there were many problems related to alcohol and marijuana. “I think its wrong for Saint Joseph’s College to say they haven’t had any complaints, because that’s just not true…all I’m asking for is for Saint Joseph’s to work closely with the neighbors,” he said.
• Hearthside Road resident Sherry Autry questioned the judgment of some student drivers that use Whites Bridge Road daily. Students “are traveling at higher speeds and maybe not making the most prudent decisions,” said Autry.
• Joe McKenna of Hearthside Road expressed his reservations about the further expansion of the Saint Joseph’s. “The college, to this point, has been manageable, but we can’t let it get any bigger,” he said.
