What do you think about the new surge strategy in Iraq? And how has the war affected you personally?

Jane Chipman Noonan, Raymond

“We’ve got a good friend that’s over there. I wish they’d get the job done so those people can get on with their lives. Our friend is doing a fabulous job, but we’d love to have him back home.”

Bob LeClerc, 57, South Casco

“Being a Vietnam veteran and having a son who just came back from Iraq, it’s affected me very deeply. I think (the war) is such a waste. Did we not learn anything from Vietnam? It’s dajA? vu of Vietnam. If you can’t win, don’t do it.”

“I have a few really good friends who just got back from a few tours in Iraq. They say they really love their country, but that we’ve already accomplished our mission…I feel our president has misled our people in a lot of ways.”

James Smith, 67, Windham

“I had students who have been in Iraq. I think it’s foolish and foolhardy to put 20,000 more troops in the war.”

Marsha Morgan, 64, Windham

“I’m a retired major from the army. I support the troops, but I think we need to go in a new direction with this war. I hope Congress can work together and with the President so troops can be safe as soon as possible.”

Jamie Smith, 31, Windham

“I have several friends that are over there, and family, and I support the war. I know the people over there are proud of what they’re doing and I’m proud of them for it,”

Mike Johnson, 17, Gorham

“My cousins are there and I’m joining up. I’m doing ROTC. I’m safe for now, because they won’t call me out until I graduate from college. Hopefully it will be done by then.”
