The Gorham girls’ basketball team has not played since last Friday night when they defeated Cheverus. By virtue of their 15-3 record they earned the No. 3 seed in the Western Maine Class A tournament and received a bye in the first round.

After Tuesday night’s game between Massabesic and Sanford, the Rams now know they will take on the defending state champions from Sanford on Saturday morning at the Portland Expo in a regional quarterfinal.

The Rams plowed through the majority of their schedule this season with only three losses. One of those losses came at the hands of these same Redskins back on January 27. The Gorham girls would love nothing better than to exact a little revenge and knock Sanford out of the tourney.

If they are to do that, the Rams will need strong performances from Rachele Burns, Kelsey Wilson and all of their players because the Redskins want desperately to keep the title in Sanford. The teams will tip things off at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the Portland Expo.

Bonny Eagle season ends

The Bonny Eagle girls missed the West A tournament this season finishing with a 7-11 record. They are No. 12 in the final standings and only the top 11 make the playoffs.

The Scots were hampered by a late season slump that saw them lose their final eight games. The Scots also lost one of their key players, Meghan Ledoux, late in the year with a knee injury.

Even with all of those setbacks the team nearly made the tournament field.
