Windham Center Stage Theatre’s production of “A Little Princess” begins this weekend at the Windham High School’s Performing Arts Center. The play is a children’s production fulfilling the theatre’s teaching mission that any child who auditions and commits to the play will get a role.

The show is set in London in 1939, just as England announces that it will enter the war against Germany. The show features Sara Crewe, played by Kiara Tringali, who is left at a boarding school run by Miss Minchin (Leighann Lomonte) as her father leaves to join the war effort. Pilot Capt. Crewe (Jamie McBride) is shot down over France and returned to London by French Resistance fighters. In the meantime, Miss Minchin and Crewe’s lawyer (Hannah Adams) hatch a plan to steal little Sara’s fortune and force her to be a scullery maid. With the help of The Lady (Shelbi Wassick) and Asha Avani (Nicole McCallum), little Sara finds what happiness she can in trying circumstances, singing “Every Girl is a Princess.” At times funny, boisterous and poignant, the story will entertain all ages.

“A Little Princess” opens this Friday at Windham High School performing arts center. Shows are Fridays, Feb. 9 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 seniors/student, $10 adults and $5 children age 5 and under.
