The Scarborough Public Library is helping young children get a head start on computer learning, thanks to a grant by Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution.
Youngsters from 3 to 8 years of age are using the library’s two new Early Literary Stations purchased with a $4,880 grant presented by the bank.
The computer stations include developmentally appropriate learning that crosses all curriculums, according to Susan Winch, assistant director of the library. Reading and writing, math and problem solving, arts, science and social studies are among the subjects featured.
Computer-aided learning is one of the many programs the library offers. The new equipment, said Winch, supports the library’s mission as an enrichment center and doorway to learning for children of all ages.
Laura Bustin, manager of Saco & Biddeford Savings’ Scarborough branch who made the presentation, said the bank was pleased to support the library’s request.
