Was the Windham Town Council right to deny developer Peter Busque’s request to build a quarry on Nash Road?

Dorothy Brooks, Windham

“If I was living down there I don’t think I’d want a quarry there. If it was far enough away it would be alright.”

Anne Hoeprich, 56, Windham

“I probably wouldn’t want to live next door [to a quarry]. We lived in Maryland and there were a lot of quarries where we were…people near us had concerns about sinkholes, so I can understand that people would be concerned about it.”

Richard MacDonald, 64, Naples

“I have no problem [with the quarry]. I think he’s invested quite a bit into the property and if it was going to be turned down, it shouldn’t have got this far. Windham needs all the business it can get.”

Raymond Heatley, 62, Windham

“I don’t have a problem with him [building a quarry]. I think it’s wrong that the town denied his request.”

Diane Crowell, Windham

“I think that if originally they told him it was okay to do it, it’s not fair that they should all of the sudden say he can’t do it, unless there were environmental issues that came up after the fact.”

Marc Jeffrey, 42, Raymond

“I don’t think they should have denied it. They’re driving out another business. The state does that enough.”
