The Windham Education Foundation will hold an all-ages spelling bee at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb 1, at the Windham High School Performing Arts Center to raise money for grants and scholarships.

The event will be hosted by well-known Maine humorist Tim Sample, who can be expected to make at least one “honey bee” pun sometime during the evening.

The event will also feature a performance by the Windham Chamber Singers. Organizer Thomas Bartell said the happening will have a musical theme in the words selected for contestants.

“We are trying to support the education process for students in Windham,” said Bartell.

The Windham Education Foundation was formed in Oct. 2005. It currently has two scholarships for college-bound Windham students, and will begin giving grants to teachers for additional in-class spending.

Contestants, who can be of any age, will register in teams of three. The winners will have their names engraved on the “Windham Bee Champion Trophy.”

Each team will need to pay $300 to register. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. All proceeds will go to the Windham Education Foundation.
