Fourteen South Portland High School students were recently awarded AP Scholar Awards by the College Board. AP Scholar Awards are given to students whose scores on the Advanced Placement tests earn recognition for outstanding academic achievement.

The Advanced Placement program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP exams. About 18 percent of the more than 1.3 million high school students in 16,000 secondary schools worldwide who took the AP exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the designation of AP Scholar.

SPHS students earning the Scholar with Distinction Award for scoring at least 3.5 out of 5 on all AP exams taken and a grade of 3 or higher on five or more AP Exams were Emma Dalton and Henry Keiter.

Those earning Scholar with Honor Awards for earning at least a 3.25 and grades of 3 or higher on four or more AP exams were Carly Cummings and Emily Haeuser.

Students who were named AP Scholars and earned a 3 or higher on all AP exams were Joseph Canarie, Kelsey Champagne, Sarah Gray, Eric Greer, Emily Igo, Owen Keiter, Kathryn Libby, Andrew Ochsner, Kelly Schussler and Alexander Whitney.
