Scarborough will be changing from traditional curbside trash pickup to a fully automated curbside trash and recycling pickup service, starting in May. The new program is designed to be more convenient, and to raise Scarborough’s recycling rates. The new 65-gallon carts, one for trash and one for recycling, will be distributed to each household in April.

If you live on a public road – carts should be placed at curbside on your normally scheduled pickup day.

If you live on a private road – you should place carts at the nearest intersecting public road on your normally scheduled pickup day. Residents on these private roads may choose, at their own expense, to contract with Pine Tree Waste for curbside trash and recycling removal using town-provided carts.

For residents who live on private roads with more than five houses, the town will supply your carts if you wish to participate in the town program. If you choose to participate, you must notify the Public Works Department of your decision no later than Feb. 16, so your carts get included in the bulk purchase.

We appreciate residents’ cooperation and support as we roll out this exciting new program to the citizens of Scarborough.
