4th Graders (PHOTO)
Mrs. Olson’s fourth grade class at Windham Manchester School organized the Manchester community “Any Soldier” drive to be combined with collections from a team at UnumProvident. Mrs. Olson’s class worked on making posters to display around the school so the entire school could participate in collecting items for the soldiers.
Students made announcements over the school intercom, collected donations from local merchants and wrote a grant. They collected enough items to fill 25 stockings and had several boxes of surplus material to send care packages to other soldiers. They also collected more than 200 handmade greeting cards created by fourth and fifth graders throughout the school. All items were delivered to UnumProvident where they were boxed and mailed out to a military unit in Kuwait. The students at the Manchester School worked very hard and learned a great deal through this project. Job well done they have a lot to be proud of!
Library
An assortment of Peanuts memorabilia from the collection of Sarah Farwell will be on display at the Windham Public Library through Feb. 9, 2007. Farwell has collected Peanuts memorabilia for as long as she can remember and kept her interest over the years as she learned more about the man behind the artwork, Charles Schulz. Although Snoopy is her favorite character, she has a full range of characters on exhibit at the library, some displayed on vintage pieces and others on modern pieces, and nearly every piece with a story behind it. Stuffed toys, cars, books, a snow globe and a telephone are among some of the items on dsplay.
