Keith Luke, Windham’s director of economic development, said that despite recent reports that Time Warner Cable subscribers may lose CBS affiliate WGME Channel 13 he feels the issue will be resolved in the favor of the viewers.

“These issues always seem to work themselves out,” Luke said.

Two weeks ago it was revealed that Time Warner Cable is renegotiating with some companies, including Sinclair Broadcast Group that owns WGME, as a result of their buyout of Adelphia Communications in July.

Time Warner consistently has had difficulties with Sinclair in the past, Luke said.

“The irony here is that both Time Warner and Sinclair both want to reach the same eyeballs,” said Luke.

Luke said that it is in the interest of the two companies to continue a business relationship, because not working together gets Sinclair channels on fewer screens, and discourages customers from using Time Warner.

“No one wins in that scenario,” Luke said.

Time Warner spokesperson Peter Dewitt said the negotiations are going on nationally, not just for WGME. Dewitt said he expects the issue to be resolved by the end of the month.

WGME General Manager Terry Cole said some concerned viewers have been calling the station and asking about the issue, but it has not affected businesses who advertise on the station.

Dewitt said last week that about 140,000 Time Warner customers would be affected if the negotiations do not work out. He added that two-thirds of them would be able to view CBS programs through other affiliates, WBZ-TV of Boston, WABI of Bangor or WCAX of Vermont.

Some CBS programs include “Without a Trace,” “The Amazing Race,” “60 Minutes,” “The Young and the Restless” and “Two and a Half Men.” NFL games are also aired on CBS, including most New England Patriots games and this year’s Super Bowl.

Ashley Coss, 23, of Oxford works at Pat’s Pizza in Windham where Patriots games are aired in the restaurant and bar area.

“Sundays when they do play are significantly busier,” Coss said.

“If Time Warner gets rid of Channel 13, I’ll go back to Direct TV,” said Bill Wilcox, 39, of Windham.
