Veterans

Mr. Robyn Shepard, the State of Maine Veterans Advocate, will be at the Windham Veteran’s Center Dec. 13, from 9 to 11 a.m. He will be available to assist veterans in applying for benefits. The service is free and no appointment is necessary.

Anniversary

Lew and Joanne Weatherby, Gray Road, celebrated their annniversary Dec. 5. They enjoyed dinner with friends at Thatcher’s Restaurant.

Shriners

The Lake Region Shriners will meet Dec. 12 at the Landing Restaurant. There will be a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. They will hold their election of officers. The program will be presented by Pam Allen-Pattee. The topic will be floral design. Pam used to be with Allen’s Garden Center; she now has her own place on River Road.

Visit

Lloyd Bennett’s son, Nate, his wife, Nini, and their 2-year-old daughter arrived from Taiwan Nov. 30. They will also have with them a junior high school girl who wants to go to school here next fall. Nate’s purpose is to recruit 50 teachers for his summer English classes at the Taiwan University of Science and Technology. He will be teaching 1,000 Taiwanese students to speak better English in an eight-week course he will be putting on starting in June and ending in August.

In Hospital

Elsie Haskell spent several days in Mercy Hospital recently. She fell and broke her leg. She had surgery and had a plate put in, but has since been released.

Thanksgiving

Ed and Polly Varney, Nash Road, entertained their son, Tom, for Thanksgiving. Tom came down from Bethel and did some hunting before dinner.

Company

Betty Barto, Montgomery Road, recently had a visit from her niece, Trudy Ann Heath and her husband, Skip. They drove up from Arkansas and stayed a days with Betty’s daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Bill Hager also of Montgomery Road.

Reminder

Don’t forget that the Windham Clothes Closet is in need of clothing. They really need winter jackets, men’s and boy’s clothing, blankets and throws. You may drop off items at the Clothes Closet on Mondays, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Please make sure they are clean and in good repair.
