Windham musician Rick Charette has been honored with his alma mater’s highest award.

This week, Cheverus High School in Portland announced that Charette, along with three other alumna, have earned the Magis Award for living a life of integrity and compassion for others.

The hallmark of the Cheverus experience is in its adherence to the Jesuit tradition which calls for the pursuit of excellence in order to more fully become a “person for others.” Jesuits and those familiar with Ignatian tradition use the word “magis” to identify that pursuit of excellence.

Cheverus created the Magis Award to honor those who have achieved excellence as a person for others and who have lived their lives according to the imperatives represented by the word “magis.” The award recognizes those in the Cheverus community who have demonstrated a lifetime of service, care and commitment to others.

The four individuals selected to receive the 2007 Magis Award are: Tim Burton Class of ’77, Rick Charette ’65, Francis Myatt ’53 and Robert Nanovic.

Rick Charette has devoted his talents and creativity to providing fun and enriching music, as entertainment and education, to young children and their families. He has written and produced 10 music albums, two storybooks and two live concert videos for children. His career in writing and performing music is a living example of his love for teaching and sense of community and, of course, his love of children.

The winners will be honored at a reception and awards banquet at The Portland Regency Hotel, 20 Milk Street, Portland on Jan. 14, 2007 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person.
