All schools in Cape Elizabeth were evacuated due to a bomb threat found at the high school today, Nov. 29.
According to Mary Bruns in the Cape superintendent’s office, a note was found in the high school this morning that indicated there was a bomb both in the high school and the middle school.
“Although we’re pretty sure it’s a hoax,” said Bruns, “we went ahead with the evacuations for the safety of the students.”
All students were evacuated according to the school department’s emergency plan, said Bruns. The high school students were taken to South Portland High School, the middle school students were taken to Memorial Middle School in South Portland and the elementary students were taken to St. Bartholomew’s church in Cape Elizabeth.
The students will continue the day at the emergency locations. Once the schools are determined to be safe, said Bruns, the students will be bussed back to Cape Elizabeth schools at the regular time for the usual dismissal.
All after school activities are canceled, added Bruns, though Community Services is expected to reopen the high school pool at 6 p.m.
