The Gorham Business & Civic Exchange is collecting gifts for assisted-living seniors from the Inn at Village Square at this year’s holiday reception.

The event is being held Thursday, Dec. 7, from 5:30-7 p.m., at the Pine Crest Bed & Breakfast, 91 South St., Gorham.

Hosted by both Clark Associates Insurance Co. and Pine Crest Bed & Breakfast, the occasion promises to be festive, with music, food and holiday cheer.

The gifts will be wrapped and delivered in time for Christmas. According to Paul Schreiber, administrator of the Inn at Village Square, the majority of residents are female, with average age of 85, although they do have two residents over 100.

Gifts ideas appreciated by seniors are writing tablets/ pads of paper, stationery, large print books qne crossword puzzles,

audio books, non-skid slippers, handkerchiefs and packages of pocket-sized tissues.

Also, bird feeders, puzzles, hand lotion and sun catchers to hang in windows

“The holiday gifts are not about fulfilling the physical needs of our residents. It is about feeling loved, remembered and appreciated by members of their community,” said Schreiber.

The Inn at Village Square is a private, nonprofit assisted living- residential care facility located at 123 School St. in Gorham. It provides services to seniors 62 years and older who find it difficult to continue to live unassisted in their own home. The facility accepts both private pay and Maine Care residents.

Among the inn’s sercvices are 24-hour RN resident-call system; three meals served daily; housekeeping and laundry service; activities; exercise program; transportation to medical appointments; and respite care program. Two studios are designed for couples. All other are single occupancy, each with private bathroom and tea kitchen.”
