There are many photos of old houses in our area, but rarely do we see what the inside of the house looks like. This photo was taken a long time ago in what is now the dining room of one of Windham’s oldest houses. Located on the River Road in South Windham, it’s believed this house may have been built in the early or mid-1800s. From this picture, it appears that the present day dining room may have been the kitchen in the olden days, given the big old stove located here. Doorways today remain just as in this old photo. The Brown-Whittier-Miele-Phillips house is one of only three houses in Windham with cove or coved ceilings. Photo from the archives of Windham Historical Society.
