At the completion of his three-year term as president of the Agawam Council, Robert “Coach” D. Demont, president of Demont & Associates, Inc., was recently presented with a Special Commendation from Agawam’s board of directors for his service over the past 12 years to Camp Agawam as a volunteer and director.

Agawam Council is the nonprofit umbrella organization of Camp Agawam, located in Raymond, a private, character-based camp serving American youth since 1919. The Main Idea, an outreach camp program funded by alumni, parents, and friends of Camp Agawam, provides more than 100 deserving boys with a free week of camp every year. Demont, a Main Idea advocate, continues to serve as a volunteer counselor for the program every summer.

“The chance to interact in a positive way with so many deserving young people from Maine, and to work each summer with the excellent professional staff at Agawam, really inspires me,” Demont said. “It has been very satisfying to be a part of such a successful program.”

The Special Commendation was presented to Demont recently by incoming president, Frank Anthony, who noted that “‘Coach’ has consistently challenged the Council to ‘be the best of whatever we are,’ and to reach for ever higher goals.”

Under Demont’s leadership, Agawam Council recognized the need for and filled the position of an executive director, and worked to protect Camp Agawam’s land by securing surrounding property. Demont helped raise almost a half million dollars through 10 Golf Marathons for Camperships, which are scholarships for a seven-week camp program, and for Main Idea. He also campaigned for the Main Idea program to include 14-year-olds, which increased the total number of campers served. As President, board member, and volunteer, Mr. Demont’s passion and expertise have proven invaluable for Camp Agawam and will continue to impact Maine youth far into the future.
