Sen. Phil Bartlett swept Gorham, Westbrook and Scarborough, comfortably defeating Gorham Republican Jane Willett to keep his Maine Senate District 6 seat.
“I’m very excited about it,” Bartlett said at a gathering of Gorham Democrats Tuesday night. “I’m thrilled to have a strong showing in all three places.”
Bartlett’s total was 8,770 to Willett’s 6,685. Bartlett won in Gorham 3,430 to 2,620; Scarborough, 3,485 to 2,971; and Westbrook, 1,855 to 1,094. He carried Gorham’s three districts and central.
Bartlett, an attorney and Gorham Democrat, will enter his second term in the Senate. He said he would like to work in a bipartisan way to accomplish his goals, building upon the relationships he has made.
“I’m certainly happy by the strong show of support,” he said of his victory. “I’m very gratified.”
Bartlett said his campaign was a lot of work, but a worthwhile experience.
