Building on its well received winter workshop series, the Casco Public Library announces a year-long series of gardening workshops beginning Sunday, Nov. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library.

“A Year in the Garden” series will focus on propagating trees, shrubs and perennials from seed, using little specialized equipment. Other gardening topics will also be covered. Every workshop will provide each participant the opportunity to sow seeds appropriate to the season. Workshops will occur about every two months, with the schedule being finalized at the end of the first meeting. Participants may attend one or more workshops.

November is a perfect time to start thinking about next year’s garden, while this year’s garden is still fresh in mind. What worked well? What didn’t? What pictures would you like to create as you look out on your yard? November is also a good time for collecting fall-maturing seeds, and sowing those that need a period of outdoor conditions over the winter.

Don’t have south-facing windows? Don’t want to use grow lights? You will have a chance to experiment with techniques that require neither. Plant enthusiast and workshop leader Pam Edwards will share her gardening experiences as well as her techniques for creating or supplementing a garden with plants acquired at little or no cost.

Pre-registration is required, and the number of participants will be limited. Please call or stop by the library to enroll. The library is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., or call 627-4541. There will be a nominal fee to cover the costs of materials.
