The Naples Public Library is pleased to offer a free three-part investment seminar. The classes will be offered on Monday evenings, Oct. 30, Nov. 6 and Nov. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Library’s Gathering Room.

Michael Dow of Dow Investment Group, LLC will teach the classes. He has been offering this seminar to various groups across southern Maine since 1996. Mr. Dow holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston University and an M.B.A. from Boston University’s School of Management. For 15 years he worked for Advest and in December 2005, Dow and his family founded Dow Investment Group, LLC.

The three-part workshop will focus on a variety of topics aimed to help the common stock investor. Week one will feature a discussion on Portfolio Theory and Market Sectors and will cover diversification, investing for dividends vs. total return and market sectors. The second week will cover Resources and Financial Statement Analysis and show students how to read and analyze company reports, balance sheets, income statements and various financial publications such as Value Line and Standard and Poor’s. The final week will cover Valuation and Company Analysis and the topics to be covered will include stock splits and valuation techniques.

This is an exciting opportunity for beginning investors and anyone who has been in the market but would like to further their knowledge base. Seating is limited for the class and anyone who signs up is asked to be sure they can attend all three sessions.
