Here’s a school bus used in Windham for a number of years. This picture is from 1928 and one can only imagine what the ride was like over the then-unpaved roads in town. Back in those days, kids who lived within a mile of a school, walked to school. Yes, all ages and in all kinds of weather. There were one- or two-room schools in every neighborhood. There were only a couple of bus drivers and the population in town was around 2,000. (Photo from archives of Windham Historical Society)
