Library
On display at the Windham Public Library through Oct. 31 are works by the artist Frank Gruber.
From an early age through his adolescent years, Gruber studied and worked closely with his father, an accomplished illustrator and a graduate of New York’s prestigious Art Student’s League. As a result, the strong lines and realism so common to mid-20th century illustration can be seen in his work.
Gruber recently produced a one-artist show at the University of Southern Maine’s Glickman Library. The charcoal and gouache works being exhibited at the Windham Public Library are from that one-artist show, called “Cowboys and Indians: The Myth and Reality of the 19th Century American West.” His gouache and oil paintings have also been shown extensively in New York and Connecticut prior to his move to Maine.
