People interested in becoming a volunteer Medicare Advocate are invited to attend a fall training session Sept. 12, 13, 19 and 20.
Medicare is the national health plan for older Americans but for most people it remains a mystery until they have to enroll. Volunteers from the area are actively helping Medicare “newbies” navigate the Medicare maze. Southern Maine Agency on Aging offers regular clinics where staff and trained volunteers help Medicare-eligible people enroll in their benefit plans.
The Maine Medicare Education Partnership recruits and trains volunteers to help educate others about Medicare options. The Partnership is always looking for volunteers who enjoy working with people either through public speaking or one-on-one.
Volunteers are trained and can work in many phases including, prescription drug plans, supplemental insurance, Medicare alternatives, and fraud and identity theft. Please call or e-mail Carol Rancourt to sign up for volunteer training at 396-6547 or crancourt@smaaa.org.
