M. Wayne Rogers, 78

Veteran WWII, Windham native

M. Wayne Rogers, 78, of Windham died on Sept. 6, 2006, at a Portland hospital after a long illness.

Born in Windham on Oct. 14, 1927, he was the son of Maurice L. and Alberta H. (Farris) Rogers.

A lifelong Windham resident, he was a graduate of Windham High School, class of 1945. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during the closing stages of WWII.

On June 25, 1947, Wayne married Kathleen Fogg; they recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.

He was employed as an excavator operator for many years, first for his father’s business, the M.L. Rogers Company of Windham and for 19 years with the C.R. Tandberg Company, also of Windham. He retired from there in 2004.

He was a member of the Presumpscot Lodge of Masons #127, of Windham as well as a member and two time past commander of the Windham American Legion Post #148.

Wayne’s favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren; he also enjoyed his lakeside home on Little Sebago Lake and was known for always making folks who stopped by feel welcomed.

He was predeceased by a brother, Alyn Rogers; and a sister, Jeannette Avery.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen (Kitty) Rogers of Windham; his children, Dennis W. Rogers of Portland, Rhonda Hanscom and husband Joe of New Vineyard, Stephen L. Rogers of Windham, and Christopher A. Rogers and wife Stephanie, of New Gloucester; his second daughter, Beth Papas of St. Michael, Minnesota; six

grandchildren, James, Chad, Kellie, Sarah, Nick and Ben; and five great-grandchildren.

There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at Smith Cemetery, Route 202, Windham. Arrangements are by the Dolby Funeral Chapel, Windham.
