Time is running out for would-be candidates for three seats on both the town council and school board to get nomination papers signed and certified.

The deadline to return the nomination petitions to the town clerk’s office is Friday, Sept. 8, at 4 p.m. The election is Nov. 7.

As of Tuesday, council incumbent David J. Backer had not yet returned his nomination papers. Michael Mowles, also an incumbent, said he is undecided about running again. Incumbent Carol Fritz was unavailable for comment.

Greg S. Altznauer, 25 Killdeer Road, and Sara W. Lennon, 54 Cranbrook Road, have taken out papers to run for town council.

On the school board, incumbent Kevin Sweeney has already had his signatures collected and certified, securing him a spot on the ballot. “It’s part of what I do. I’ve being doing community service for about 30 years,” he said. “The idea that occasionally we help young people is a real positive.”

Anne Belden said she is undecided about running again for her seat. Elaine Moloney has decided not to run. “I’ve been on the board for almost seven years, and now it is time for other new ideas,” she said.

Karen B. Burke, 1 Maiden Cove Road,, and Piotr Stamieskin, 5 Granite Ridge Road, have taken out nomination papers to run for the school board seats.
