The Friends of Scarborough Marsh and the Scarborough Land Conservation Trust are presenting Scarborough Marsh Day on Saturday, Aug. 12.
This morning of free activities and workshops is designed to introduce people of all ages to new ways they can enjoy and appreciate the 3,100-acre Scarborough Marsh.
The activities begin at 6 a.m. and are scheduled several times during the morning. Conservationist Dick Andersen will be teaching how to fish for striped bass, there will be a photography workshop, a guided canoe tour, an opportunity to dig clams, an early morning birding walk, a chance to learn about geocaching using GPS devices, a tour of Libby River Farm, a presentation and exhibit on the history of the marsh, a guided walk of the Eastern Trail and a tour of a marsh restoration site with the president of the Friends of Scarborough Marsh. Sunscreen and bug spray are suggested.
At noon, there will be an opportunity for families to picnic at Bayley’s Campground on Pine Point Road while enjoying a performance by the Maine Hysterical Society.
