The Scarborough Rotary has named its students of the quarter for the fourth quarter of the school year. The winners are Douglass Endrizzi, a senior at Scarborough High School; Luke Bogdanovich, of the Abanaki team at Scarborough Middle School and Samantha Dedian, of the Sokokis team at Scarborough Middle School.

Students are selected each quarter based on the contributions that they make to their school and their community, their care for others, strong leadership abilities, scholastic excellence, growth and improvement, and their level of involvement in school life and sports.

A three-member committee consisting of a teacher, and administrator, and a Rotary member review all candidates. Three students have been chosen and were honored at the Rotary Club breakfast held at Scarborough Downs on June 6. Each student received a plaque, a certificate and a cash gift.

Samantha has made a tremendous impact on her classmates and her school community over the past three years. Not only is Samantha a hard-working student, which sets a positive example for her peers, but she also works hard to encourage others to work to their fullest potential.

Sam is also a role model for others in the way that she stands up for what she believes is right and respects others’ opinions. She seeks out her interests and is an active participant in both in-school and out-of-school activities, such as being a member of the chorus, a volunteer for cancer research fundraising, and a peer helper.

To me, Doug Endrizzi is the model school citizen.

Doug Endrizzi exemplifies what it means to be a school citizen. His dedication to his studies and commitment to the school are qualities that demonstrate his all around involvement in school.

I know that I appreciate having him in class for the scholar he is, and I perceive the positive effect he has contributed to the school’s atmosphere. The energy and enthusiasm with which he pursues any task, along with that genuine, welcoming smile, make him a person I’m glad I know.

His contributions to our school make him a worthy candidate for this award.

Teacher nomination-Luke Bogdanovich

It is with great honor that I nominate Luke Bogdanovich to receive the Rotary student award.

Luke’s scholastic achievement is exemplary. He has maintained either honors or high honors throughout his middle school career. He takes his schoolwork very seriously and goes above and beyond what is expected of him, even in his honors courses.

He is a dedicated football and baseball player, winning the respect and gratitude of his fellow players and his coaches by being a team player and always giving his all.

He is truly an outstanding young man who stands head and shoulders above his classmates, and will be fondly remembered at Scarborough Middle School.
