Girls hoop clinic

The Westbrook Girls Summer Basketball Clinic is running the first of three sessions this week at Wescott Junior High School. Spots are open for the June 26 to 29 session, as well as the July 10 to 13 session. The camp, under the direction of Blue Blazes coach Mike Murphy, is for players entering grades 7 to 12 and runs Monday through Thursday. Registration is $50 per week and can be done at the site. The clinics will feature shooting, passing, dribbling, offensive and defensive principles and competitions. Players in grades 9 and 10 will be entered in the YES league, while older players will be entered in the Expo league. Coach Murphy can be reached at 854-1775.

Michael Cushing of Gorham took part in Saturday’s 46th Mount Washington Road Race, scaling the 7.6-mile course in just under two hours. Cushing, 35, finished 552nd in the field of more than 800.

Baseball all-stars

The annual High School Senior All Star baseball game will be played June 23 at 7 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond on the University of Maine, Orono campus. The annual event was the brainchild of Larry Mahaney and honors the standout seniors as they end their high school baseball career. Gorham’s Mark Schmidt and Scott MacDonald are scheduled to participate.
