Brewer residents Brenda Volz and her son Dan walked through Windham on routes 202 and 302 on Thursday afternoon during a 65-mile trek to raise money for Easter Seals. The two started last Tuesday in Augusta and finished Saturday at Deering Oaks Park in Portland. “You notice a lot more things walking than when you’re in your car,” Brenda Volz said. “People are showing us a lot of support, too. Five people saw us and offered us a ride. We told them we couldn’t take the ride, but we asked them if they wanted to donate to Easter seals and all of them donated.” Friday night, Brenda and Dan and Brenda’s husband Donald, who drove a support car along the route, stayed at the Eastland Park Hotel, compliments of the hotel. Since the age of 12, Brenda has been active in raising money for Easter Seals, an organization that provides support for disabled children in Maine. Staff photo by John Balentine
