The squads from Westbrook, Gorham and Bonny Eagle each received a callback at Monday’s SMAA cheerleading competition, and finished among the top half of the 14 teams.

For the Blazes and the Rams, it was a sign of the improvement in their programs.

“We did great,” said Westbrook senior Caleigh Mannette. “It feels so good to get called back. Every since we’ve been freshmen we haven’t been called back.”

“We’ve come a long way since tryouts this year,” said Gorham’s Chanelle Hallsworth, the only junior on a team with no seniors. “We made it to callback, and I think that was impressive for not having any seniors.”

The Scots, defending state Class A champions, took third place and vowed to improve for the regionals and states.

“We’re all really excited and we all did really well,” said Bonny Eagle senior Melissa Kenison. “There’s room for improvement and there always is.”
