In the latest production at the Children’s Theatre of Maine, the classic tale of “Saint Joan” by George Bernard Shaw is adapted with a contemporary twist while preserving all of the original dialogue, reflecting themes of war and religion that are relevant to today’s society.

Recommended for young adults older than age 12, this production is a thought provoking adaptation of the story of Joan of Arc.

Artistic Director Pamela DiPasquale said she wants to challenge the audience to understand the story of Joan in light of today’s society. “When we think of war today, we do not think of knights and armor, and tights and swords,” said DiPasquale. “We think of soldiers armed with guns, of terrorists armed with planes.”

“Saint Joan” runs through Jan. 29, and with performances on Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The Children’s Theatre of Maine is located at 317 Marginal Way in Portland. To reserve tickets, call 828-0617, or email boxofficectm@maine.rr.com.
