Holmes helps Falcons to win

Jeff Holmes had 12 points, five rebounds and two blocks in Bentley College’s 81-60 win Saturday over Assumption College in Worcester. The Westbrook native is averaging 11.8 points a game, and leads the team in rebounds (6.8 per game) and blocks (10 this season), helping the Falcons to a 7-6 record. The 6-foot-5 Holmes, a junior, is a graduate of Cheverus High School.

USM softball pitching clinics start Sunday

USM’s softball program will hold weekly pitching clinics starting Sunday at the Costello Sports Complex on the school’s Gorham campus. The clinics, directed by Huskies’ coaches and players, are open to all pitchers, from beginners to advanced. Sessions will run for one hour starting at 9 a.m. for six consecutive Sundays. Pitchers may attend any and all of the clinics and should bring someone to catch for them. The cost is $10 per session. Those with questions should contact coach Bonny Brown-Denico at 780-5519.
