Fourth and fifth grade students in Jacque Doyon’s class at George E. Jack School in Standish are participating in a prevocational jobs program. Students spend one half hour every Wednesday morning going out into the workplace. Local businesses have made it possible for the students to work. The goal of the program is to have the students treat this time as a real job and to learn responsibilities such as calling their boss when they are out sick, arriving at work on time, and doing the job with a professional attitude. Above, students learning to check out customers at Hannaford Supermarket in Standish include Stacey Bernier at the register, James Belanger as the customer, and Nick Merrill is the bagger.
