The mock trial team of Bonny Eagle High School 2005-06 is preparing for the upcoming mock trial competition. This is the seventh year BEHS has participated in the competition. Round one will take place in the beginning of November. Leading up to round one, the team will scrimmage against McAuley High School and hold a public demonstration in the high school auditorium.
Participants in this year’s mock trial team for the prosecution include Liz Andrews, Ali Bouthiet, James Boutin, David Carl, Bobby Dedovic, Jesse Doehler, Andrew Dyer, Alana Feeney, Andre Gadbois, Josh Hale, Josh Labbe, Sean McCarthy, Sam Niman, Syd Roy, Kim Simonsen, Danielle Slocum, James Stickney, Danielle Thomas, Erika Whitney, and Kate Williams. Defense participants include Marc Assante, Breanne Boutilier, Behn Brooks, Adriann Cyr, Stephanie Davis, Katya Dolloff, Josh Douin, Anthony Fortunato, Artemas Foster, Joe Mendes, Janna Nichols, Chelsea Northrop, Griffin Sherry, Crystal Stack, Christopher Wescott, and Alyssa Heath.
Benefits of the mock trial program extend beyond the rewards of competition. The impact of the program is measured by successfully attaining the following objectives: 1. to further understanding of court procedures and the legal system; 2. to improve proficiency in basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and reasoning; 3. to promote better communication and cooperation between the educational and legal communities; 4. to provide a competitive event in an academic atmosphere; and, 5. to promote cooperation among students of various abilities and interests.
David Ezhaya is the Teacher Coach, the Lawyer Coach is Jim Haddow, BEHS class of 1977 from the firm Petruccelli, Martin and Haddow LLC. in Portland. The Lawyer Consultant is Amanda Ranerez BEHS Class of 1993. The Mock Trial competition is sponsored by the Maine School of Law and involves 21 teams.
This year’s trial is a murder trial. Bonny Eagle faces Sanford High School on Thursday Nov. 3rd at the York County Superior Court in Alfred.
