Thank You
Barbara Muir would like to thank everyone who donated pet food so generously to the pet food donation day at the Kennel Shop Saturday, Sept. 24. A lot of food was received which will be a great benefit to the animals of the people who use the Windham Food Pantry. A special thank you to the Kennel Shop for all they do to support this cause. It wouldn’t be nearly as successful without them. Thank you to all.

William Anderson and his wife Mabert and her sister, Alice were recently here from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. They visited Helen Anderson in Smyrna Mills then came south to the Holiday Inn West. They invited Tammy and Elsie Haskell to have dinner with them. They are relatives of the late Harold Haskell.

Moose Hunt (PHOTO)
Aaron Bennett won a moose hunting permit this year and he went to the “North Maine Woods” with his friend, Art Colvin, of Freeport and his father, Lloyd Bennett, who went along as the photographer. They traipsed through rain, wet trees, swamps and lots of mud searching for a moose. They found one and bagged it late Monday, Sept. 26 in Area 5, North of Baxter State Park. It weighed 700 pounds. Aaron was the primary hunter and Art was the secondary hunter. Lloyd enjoyed the experience, as it was his first time hunting and being in the North Woods.

Iraq veteran speaks
At their last monthly meeting on Sept. 20, the Lake Region Shrine Club heard from Warrant Officer John Williams from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Williams is a 36-year veteran in the Marines both in the regular service and reserves. He has had two tours of duty in Iraq and shared some of his experiences before a large crowd of members and guests. His remarks were both informative and interesting. He answered many questions from the group.
The next Shrine meeting is Oct. 18 at Charlie Beiggs Restaurant in Windham. Guest speaker is Wayne Oosterman from Portland Natural Gas. For more information, call President Frank Koenig at 892-4948.
