The SLRCC will be collecting can goods on September 8 from those attending the Business Break Anniversary Celebration on the Songo River Queen. These donated items will be distributed to our Regional Food Pantries along with funds that will be collected from the 50/50 Raffle. Our newly lettered Travel Trailer will be on site at Evergreen Credit Union to receive the donated items. Partial proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will also be distributed to the American Red Cross to help the Southern Region recover from Hurricane Katrina.

In addition the SLRCC members will be assisting Lee’s Family Trailer Sales and Service as they prepare to deliver trailers to the Southern Region in the recovery efforts from Hurricane Katrina. Members have volunteered their personal time to travel with the employees from Lee’s to help out in this effort. If time permits Lee’s may be accepting donated items to fill the trailers for those in need. If you can help in this effort please contact the Chamber Office at 892-8265.

Another business member of the Chamber, Maine Bank & Trust Company, is also partnering in the relief efforts by collecting items at their Branch locations. The following message has been received from their Corporate Headquarters:

We are pleased to announce that Maine Bank & Trust has partnered with our friends from Bisson Moving & Storage and WMSJ-Positive Hit Radio 89.3 (both bank customers) in Operation Reach Out to collect cash donations, bottled water and non-perishable food items for the disaster relief efforts for the people impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

Positive Hit Radio 89.3 has organized this effort and will promote on air. Maine Bank & Trust branches will be used as drop off sites for the bottled water and non-perishable food items. Also, an account has been opened at Maine Bank & Trust so that those interested in making a cash donation to this relief effort can do so at any MBT location. Bisson Moving & Storage will be providing the containers to collect items at the branches and they will pick up the items from MBT. Bisson is also coordinating the delivery of collected items to the disaster area.
