Local fire departments closed both the Windham and Gorham end of Mallison Falls Road this Wednesday after a water main leak broke through the pavement and began gushing water near the Maine Correctional Center. The Portland Water District manually shut off a portion of the pipe and excavated a small area to try to determine what the problem was. After finding and patching one leak, the district turned the water back on only to discover another leak in the same length of pipe. By 4 a.m. Thursday morning, the second leak was patched and the district opened the water main back to the system.
