The Kiwanis Beach on Route 25 in Standish reopened last Friday after being closed earlier in the week.
The beach, located on Watchic Lake, was shut down on Wednesday, Aug. 3 after tests indicated elevated levels of E. coli bacteria in the water.
The tests were conducted in response to complaints called in to both the beach and the town from people who were suffering from stomach ailments after swimming at the beach.
According to Paul Mosley, president-elect of Standish Kiwanis Club, as a result of this problem, the club has tightened its enforcement of the rules, making it mandatory for babies and toddlers to wear a special diaper-like swimsuit.
They will also be monitoring sanitary practices more closely and asking those who refuse to comply with the rules to leave.
The decision to reopen the beach was made after the latest round of tests showed the bacteria levels had dropped to the normal range.
