Police are investigating an incident that led to an 18-year-old man getting stabbed during a fight on Seavey Street Monday night.

Westbrook Police Capt. Tom Roth said Ian Sincyr of Sargent Street was slashed in the hand and stabbed in the abdomen by a juvenile during the incident, which began on Oak and Lamb streets at about 8 p.m. and moved over to Seavey Street. Roth did not have any information regarding Sincyr’s injuries, except to say they were not life threatening.

The confrontation began earlier in the day between two juveniles who had agreed to meet at Oak and Lamb streets to settle a dispute by fighting, said Roth. He said two groups, estimated to be about 40 people in total, were in the area of the fight.

At some point, Roth said Sincyr attempted to get involved in the fight, and he was stabbed by one of the juveniles. Police are not releasing the names of the two people involved in the fight because they are juveniles.

After police arrived at the scene and broke up the fight, Roth said they found other weapons, such as an ax handle and a 4×4 length of wood at the scene.

Police are still investigating the incident, and no charges have yet been filed, but Roth said police plan to bring charges once the investigation is complete. “There are obviously going to be charges,” he said.

Officer Dan Violette is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to call Violette at 854-0644.
