Identifying old houses and their history is an on-going project of Windham Historical Society. Many of the oldest homes in the town are located in the southern end where in the mid 1700s, settlement began. This old house on River Road was probably built in the late 1700s, and today is owned by Jean and Al Phillips. Jean’s father, Pasquale Miele, purchased the place in the 1940s. This photo has the following written as a description: “Bracken-Veldt”, River Road, Windham, 1927, Residence of Chester R. Andersen and family, 1907-1940.” Ezra Brown, one of the very first settlers was one of the earliest owners and it remained in the Brown family for many years.
