John and Brielle Merrifield, shown riding in Riverbank Park earlier this summer, have had to shorten their planned ride from Maine to Virginia Beach. Brielle Merrifield became ill in Washington, D.C., resulting in a weeklong hospital stay. She is now out of the hospital and recovering with family in Virginia.
