South Portland police arrest suspect in attempted robbery

The City Council will meet Monday to discuss the next steps to be taken before filling the post in November.

City officials believe an outreach and education campaign will encourage compliance, but they hope most residents won’t need convincing.

While seven candidates will vie for two councilor-at-large seats, no one submitted nomination papers to run for the District 1 school board seat.

The beam-magnifying Fresnel, which vanished in 1960, is part of South Portland’s maritime history and is now estimated to be worth $250,000.

The $3.3 million project by Priority Real Estate Group of Topsham is on track to be completed by Thanksgiving and open in December.
