Biddeford residents air grievances about UNE pier proposal

Biddeford City Council listened as dozens of residents discussed their opinions on the controversial project.

The meeting will allow residents to air grievances about the controversial project in front of the City Council.

The Maine Water Co. and Maine Coast Heritage Trust worked together to protect forestland, permanently preventing development.

The agency’s plan, announced this spring, would have removed almost 150 buoys as part of an effort to modernize the navigational setup.

Locations affected would include Portland Harbor, Penobscot Bay and several Maine rivers.

Elevated water levels in the Saco and other rivers has raised safety concerns.

No one was injured in the incident on a remote stretch of water in Fryeburg.

An early-season trip down the Saco River in Fryeburg offers a special kind of solitude that disappears once summer arrives.

The city’s wastewater treatment plant, one of six in Maine seen as vulnerable to rising ocean levels, will need $54 million to remain above water.

Several law enforcement agencies and first responders were called to Pleasant Point Park on Sunday afternoon.
