3 teens apprehended several hours after escaping from South Portland youth prison

The boys escaped Long Creek Youth Development Center on Friday afternoon and were found in Saco that night, officials said.

Saco police determined that the school was safe around 9:15 a.m.

The ordinance is a response to encampments in Diamond Riverside Park this summer.

Hamel will replace Chief John Duross following his retirement this fall.

Douglas Emmons was driving westbound on Buxton Road Friday when he crossed the centerline and collided with a tractor-trailer, police said.

Police say releasing any information about the incident that prompted a shelter-in-place order and school lockdowns would hamper the investigation.

Cameron Wiggins-Mehlman, 14, was last seen leaving his home in Saco around 9 p.m. Friday.

The Saco Police Department is actively searching for individuals to fill the positions of patrol officers and public safety dispatchers.
