Maine conservation groups at odds over Sappi dam pact

The decades-long effort to restore upstream fish passage on the Presumpscot River is seen by one group as not going far enough.

Sappi and conservation groups hope to revive spawning runs and add recreational uses in a river running through one of Maine’s most populous areas.

The new Presumpscot Regional Land Trust is expected to have greater reach.

Mohammed Al-Ammar, 14, was reported missing Thursday after a tandem kayak he was paddling with another boy capsized. The other boy survived.

The boat carrying two people flipped near Walton Park in Falmouth, and only one person got to the shore safely.
