Lives Lost: Bob O’Donnell, 92, retired district chief for Portland Fire Department

Mrs. Whitehead was remembered for her boundless energy and dedication to family and community.

Rathbone worked hard to put her children through school, and had a long career as a medical transcriptionist at Maine Medical Center.

After serving in the Vietnam War, he joined the force in 1972 and rose through the ranks, distinguishing himself as a champion for the underserved.

Mr. Lord’s career in education spanned nearly 25 years, and he followed with a career in real estate.

The Sanford woman and substance use disorder advocate died of an apparent overdose Saturday.
